Art with a Positive Purpose
I work in both fine arts and design. My focus is on fine arts, as they are my passion. My work consists primarily of collages with floral and architectural subjects. I also do graphic design and websites.
My work can be viewed currently at
Framed! in Meridian, Idaho, various shows, and online at this website, my
Facebook Fan Page,
Kathryn's Giclees & Limited Edition Prints on Etsy, and
Kathryn's Collages on Zazzle. Last year I could also be found at the Boise City Farmer's Market. I hope to be found at the Art in the Park in Boise this year.
I grew up practicing art. At the age of 8, I started taking art classes; I continued to do so all the way through college, earning a BFA degree at the University of Idaho. I am a member of the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA), Tau Sigma Delta (Honor Society in Architecture and Allied Arts), Beta Epsilon Chapter (UI Chapter), a National Wildlife Federation Member, and a Electronic Document System Foundation (EDSF) Scholar.
Though I have worked in many mediums, I currently prefer colored pencil as I find it quite challenging.
I work on black mat board for the majority of my pieces. Depending on my subject, I either draw fractures over the entire board and then draw the subject within those fractures or I sketch out the subject and then put fractures within it. If the piece is to be a collage I then adds old torn-up photos, stationary, aluminum foil, and even pressed flowers from my own garden. After the piece is complete it is sealed and ready for framing, which I usually do myself.
Although many assume that I was influenced by famous painters or other similar artists, the main influence for my current work is a quilting technique called Fractured Landscape.
I believe it is important to help people see the world around them in new and interesting ways through my art. Beyond the obvious fracturing seen in much of my work, some of my pieces simulate color blindness of various kinds, allowing those with normal vision to appreciate the world as others see it.
I also believes strongly in helping the environment. I do this by donating 5% of my profits to the National Wildlife Federation.

What has the Public said about my work?
These comments are just a few examples taken from a comment book that accompanies my personal gallery shows.
The collages are beautiful! From a distance they remind me of a shell inlay with the different fractions of light & dark. My favorite is 'Lone Red' - I love that tree too!

I love your style of representation, especially the distortions in the landscapes particularly in the architechtural subjects.

Your work is very creative and makes you look closer and realize what you really don't see and as we pass many of these structures on campus. Good Work.
- Lisa
I love the trees, both 'Lone Red' & 'Willow'. But then again, maybe I'm just a tree hugger... Your work is a very interesting perspective on things and places we see everyday. Good Show!
